Kara Bartow, M.A. CCC-SLP

Kara earned her B.A. in Psychology from Messiah College in Pennsylvania in 1996. She then taught preschool for several years before working as an ABA provider, treating children with autism in their homes and communities. During that time, Kara entered graduate school, earning her M.A. in Communication Sciences from Temple University in Philadelphia in 2003.

Kara has over twelve years of experience serving children of all ages, with diverse diagnoses, in a variety of settings, which include residential school, private arts-based school, home, clinic, and charter school. Kara’s clinical experience includes work in the areas of articulation, receptive/expressive language, reading/written language, auditory processing, social skills, and feeding/swallowing. She is experienced in the use of picture exchange, basic sign language, and various Augmentative/Alternative Communication devices (AAC).

Kara has completed courses in Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking program for building social skills and has completed both the Introductory and Bridging courses in PROMPT therapy. Kara has specific interests in language and early literacy skills and in severe articulation/phonological disorders/childhood apraxia of speech.

In Kara’s view, the most essential factor for therapeutic success is the clinician’s genuine respect for each child and positive expectations for growth. She strives to meet each child and family where they are and to work with them toward meeting their child’s communication and/or feeding needs.
Kara enjoys using her creativity to capture children's attention, to motivate them to grow, and to nurture their own confidence in their abilities.
